Popper Nr.10 / Above the Ground

March 25, 2015

Tomorrow, on March 27, Gallery “Alma” will host the opening of the exhibition “Popper Nr.10 / Above the Ground”, which the ABLV Charitable Foundation supports under the auspices of the programme “Support for Contemporary Art Exhibitions”.

The “Popper” cooperative is an organisation led by six enthusiastic artists who have established a vibrant platform under the name of “Popper Publishing”. This artists’ collection which began its activity in the summer of 2012 has already published nine quality editions, which are mainly devoted to drawings, illustrations, contemporary graphics and photographs. An exhibition is organised in honour to the publication of each edition.

The articles and images published in “Popper Nr.10” are dedicated to out of body experiences, hallucinations, trips, love, transformation and other uplifting subjects.

“Popper’s” activity organically fits into current movements in Western Europe; firstly, the renaissance of drawing; secondly, self-publishing and artists’ books in field which is becoming increasingly popular with each passing year. One can find many collective and individual artists, who parallel to their creative work, publish publications they’ve edited themselves, independent of the big commercial publishers.

In this publication, you can check out in one place the works of artists from Latvia and virtually the whole world, thus giving you a chance to discover the work of our artists in a global context. Participants in “Popper Nr.10”: J&K (Janne Schäfer and Kristine Agergaard), Linards Kulless, Camilla Frankl-Slater, 3/8, Bas de Boer, Artūrs Virtmanis, Martynas Pavilonis, Džiugas Valančauskas, Roberts Rūrāns, Karolis Strautniekas, Līga Spunde, Andrejs Lavrinovičs, Gediminas Šiaulys, Miķelis Fišers, Maija Kurševa, Arturs Koršs, Antanas Dubra, Egyboy, Mika Kokkonen, Walter Werner, Tron Karton, Mārtiņš Ābols, Elfie Pop Broeks, Žilvinas Landsbergas, Pēteris Ķimelis, Normunds Kozlovs, Andris Kalnozols, Tālis Šilde, Margo Zālīte, Jānis Joņevs, Nils Sakss, Laura Elcere and Lauris Kļaviņš.
