Grant Competition for Contemporary Art Exhibitions Has Been Announced

September 20, 2015

ABLV Charitable Foundation announces its annual grant competition offering financial support to contemporary art exhibitions.

In order to facilitate the successful fulfilment of the joint initiative supported by the ABLV Charitable Foundation to open the Latvian Museum of Contemporary Art in 2021, the goal of this competition is to generate public interest in contemporary art, not only by challenging people to think, but also by stimulating their appetite for learning, as well as by getting them to look in the mirror, ask themselves questions and swap ideas and experiences. Under the competition, grants are awarded to professional-level exhibitions of national importance that support cutting edge contemporary art in Latvia or provide coverage of research work into contemporary art. The total sum allocated to the grant competition in 2016 is EUR 37 500, including EUR 7 500 to comprehensive education projects run under the auspices of the exhibitions.

As the Head of ABLV Charitable Foundation’s Arts Programmes Kaspars Vanags explains, “With the further development of the Latvian Museum of Contemporary Art's collection in mind, this year precedence will be given to providing support to exhibitions for which new works of art will be created or which will provide coverage of research into the art scene in the Baltic States during the period from 1960. Special mention should also be made of the financial support due to be allocated under the terms and conditions of the competition to applications for support for comprehensive education projects run under the auspices of the exhibitions.”

The deadline for the submission of applications is 19 October 2015 (until 23.59). Applications should be submitted electronically to the following e-mail address: maksla@ablv.org. The grant competition’s terms and conditions, application and budget forms, which must be completed in Latvian, are available on the Foundation’s homepage: www.ablv.org in the section “How to receive financing”.
