ABLV Charitable Foundation has been recognised with an international award at the "Corporate Art Awards"

November 23, 2017

In Rome, the winners of the prestigious international "Corporate Art Awards 2017" have been named, and in the category of excellence in the realm of art philanthropy, the title of "Art Patrons of the XXI Century" was awarded to the ABLV Charitable Foundation from Latvia.

As was announced during the ceremony, which took place at Italy’s Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, the ABLV Charitable Foundation was awarded the prize in recognition of its work promoting the works of Latvian artists nationally and internationally, providing financial support for over 90 contemporary art projects.

“I am honoured that the jury of the prestigious "Corporate Art Awards" has recognised the major contribution of the ABLV Charitable Foundation to fostering the development of Latvian contemporary art. In recent years, the Foundation has supported many important arts events not only in Latvia, but has also facilitated the exhibition of our artists’ works beyond our country’s borders. Thanks to the collaboration between the ABLV Charitable Foundation and the Boris and Ināra Teterev Foundation, the public can look forward to a special and permanent gift on the occasion of the country’s centenary in the form of the Latvian Museum of Contemporary Art,” stressed Minister for Culture Dace Melbārde.

“We are honoured by this international recognition and are especially pleased by the fact that this award also recognises Latvia’s contemporary art scene and its development both nationally and internationally. We will be honoured if this award becomes a platform for wider recognition of Latvia and our artists, and draws attention to the future museum of contemporary art,” commented philanthropist Oļegs Fiļs on behalf of the Foundation’s founders.

In the two years that the prestigious "Corporate Art Awards" have been presented, over 200 companies from 28 countries and four continents have aspired to this honour. The award in the category "Art Patrons of the XXI Century", which recognises support for art and artists internationally, was awarded for the first time this year, and besides the ABLV Charitable Foundation, it was presented to such internationally renowned companies as CSL Group (Canada), Davidoff (Switzerland), HBC (USA), International Steels Limited (Pakistan), Lufthansa (Germany), Montefiore Medical Center (USA), PLMJ Foundation (Portugal), Swiss Mobiliar (Switzerland) and The Absolut Company (Sweden).

The ABLV Charitable Foundation, which was founded for charitable purposes by philanthropists Ernests Bernis and Oļegs Fiļs, nurtures the interest of the general public in Latvian contemporary art. Parallel to supporting events on the art scene, the focus of the Foundation’s operations is on the creation of the Latvian Museum of Contemporary Art, which will open its doors to visitors in 2021. In collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, the ABLV Charitable Foundation has undertaken to be the main supporter of the Latvian Pavilion at the Venice Art Biennale. Over the years, the Foundation has supported almost 340 projects, allocating co-financing to them worth over EUR 4 million.
