ART AND EDUCATION PROJECT COMPETITION RESULTS

Thank you to everyone who submitted interesting and highly professional project applications for ABLV Charitable Foundation’s annual grant competition for contemporary art exhibitions and their accompanying education projects. In 2018, under the auspices of the competition, the Foundation will support five projects, awarding them total co-financing in the amount of EUR 34,750.
EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES FOR SECONDARY SCHOOL CHILDREN AS PART OF THE EXHIBITION

Two excursions took place at the Latvian National Museum of Art, which were organised with the support of the ABLV Charitable Foundation under the auspices of the programme “Educational Projects with Cultural Content”, in which the participants were the winners of the memory notebook competition organised in December: Jelgava Spīdola Gymnasium’s Class 12 and Riga 71st Secondary School’s Class 12. During the excursions, both classes were introduced to the world before the digital age. They also received the main prize in the form of the opportunity to shoot their own film, under the tutelage of professionals, using analogue special effects.

With the conclusion of the Christmas charitable campaign, the ABLV Charitable Foundation has ended the year successfully, having received EUR 4,674,605 in donations thanks to the extremely generous support of donors in 2017.
The exhibition about the life before the Internet at the Latvian National Museum of Art

From 8 December 2017 to 4 February 2018 the exhibition " YOU'VE GOT 1243 UNREAD MESSAGES. Last Generation before the Internet. Their Lives" will be on show at the Latvian National Museum of Art, Great Exhibition Hall. The exhibition is organized by Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art (LCCA) in cooperation with ABLV Charitable Foundation. The exhibition will deal with the recent past, when the networking and search for oneself and others took place in an analogue instead of a digital environment.

In Rome, the winners of the prestigious international "Corporate Art Awards 2017" have been named, and in the category of excellence in the realm of art philanthropy, the title of "Art Patrons of the XXI Century" was awarded to the ABLV Charitable Foundation from Latvia.
The Baltic Young Artist Award has been won by Katrīna Čemme

On 15 November at the Art Museum Riga Bourse, the Latvian artist Katrīna Čemme was named Best Emerging Artist in the Baltics in 2017. The winner was chosen by an international jury, which reviewed works by 76 artists.

From 2-25 November, the Art Academy of Latvia (AAL) Hall will host “Density of Surface”, an exhibition of works by Master’s programme graduates, which will take place for the eighth consecutive year with the support of the ABLV Charitable Foundation. The general public is invited to attend the exhibition opening ceremony, which will take place on 1 November at 18.00.
The Online Public Vote for the Baltic Young Artists Has Started

The online vote for the nominees for the Baltic Young Artist Award has started. This year, 75 artists, who obtained their education at the art academies of Latvia, Lithuania or Estonia, are competing for the award.

Opening today - a new exhibition "White Walkers"

Today, on 22 September at 19:00, a new contemporary art exhibition "White Walkers" will open, which is being supported under the auspices of the ABLV Charitable Foundation programme “Support for Contemporary Art Exhibitions”. The exhibition will be on view until 22 October at Tallinas Street 10, from 14:00-18:00 from Wednesdays to Sundays. Guests attending the exhibition’s opening ceremony will be entertained by a soundtrack produced by white walkers from Madona and Riga, as well as a treat conceived by Norwegian artist Steffen Håndlykken.

The final stage of the design of the Latvian Museum of Contemporary Art is about to begin

The development of the sketch design for the Latvian Museum of Contemporary Art building has been completed. As soon as the construction permit is received, the final stage of the design of the museum building will begin, which is due to be completed by the middle of next year. The museum is being built according to the conceptual design conceived by the winner of the international design competition: the architectural firm Adjaye Associates (United Kingdom) and AB3D (Latvia).
A NEW KIDS’ PLAYGROUND HAS OPENED OUTSIDE RIGA CATHEDRAL WITH THE SUPPORT OF THE FOUNDATION

On 30 August, with the support of the ABLV Charitable Foundation, a children’s playground known as the Labyrinth was opened in Doma Square beside the cathedral. It was designed by sculptor Liene Mackus and actualized by the NGO Sineccura, in collaboration with Riga Cathedral. The new playground is freely accessible to both Rigans and visitors to the city, and serves as a functional and aesthetic environmental object. The project was implemented under the ABLV Charitable Foundation’s “New Riga” programme.

On 7 July, 18:00 the third and final exhibition of Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art's exhibition cycle “Divdabis” will be opened at the Latvian National Museum of Art (LNMA) featuring artists of two different time periods Oļegs Tillbergs and Jānis Filipovičs. The exhibition will be on view in the 4th Floor Exhibition Halls of the LNMA from 8 July to 6 August and it is supported by the ABLV Charitable Foundation under the auspices of the programme “Support for Contemporary Art Exhibitions”.
International Conference “We Are Museums 2017” in Riga

This year, for the second time an international competition will be held to identify the best young artist in the Baltics. ABLV Charitable Foundation announces a competition for civic improvement projects in Central Riga

By 30 June 2017, NGOs and institutions are invited to submit ideas for civic improvement projects for Central Riga that will facilitate the preservation and development of the urban environment, and foster the creation of its cultural environment. Under the auspices of ABLV Charitable Foundation’s New Riga grant programme, it is possible to obtain funding of up to 80% of total project expenditures.

For the second year in a row, during the forthcoming summer holidays, the outdoor courts run by SIA “O-SANDS” within the territory of “New Hanza” (Hanzas Street 14a) will host free beach volleyball training for schoolchildren conducted by professional coaches. THE LATVIAN EXHIBITION AT THE 57TH VENICE ART BIENNALE HAS BEEN OPENED

On 11 May, this year’s Latvian Pavilion Exhibition "What Can Go Wrong", which is comprised of 16 wood carvings, a large-scale painting and a large light and sound installation created by Miķelis Fišers, was officially opened at the Venice Biennale’s 57th International Art Exhibition. This is the second Venice Biennale in which the Latvian Pavilion Exhibition has been produced in collaboration with the ABLV Charitable Foundation as its main supporter.

An Informative Campaign “Do Ears Have Power?” is Launched on World Hearing Day

On World Hearing Day on 3 March, with the objective of increasing the knowledge of parents and children about hearing issues, and to encourage people to take care of ear and hearing health, the ABLV Charitable Foundation is launching an informative campaign, “Do Ears Have Power?”, in collaboration with the Latvian Children’s Hearing Centre, the long-term partner of the foundation’s programme “Let’s Help Them to Hear!”. Parents together with their children are encouraged to complete a simple test about their behaviour in various everyday situations, in order to ascertain whether a further hearing test in required.

Foundation Announces the Winners of the Grant Competition for Contemporary Art Exhibitions

Under the auspices of the 2017 grant competition for contemporary art exhibitions, ABLV Charitable Foundation will support four projects, awarding со-funding to them totalling EUR 35,750. This funding will be received by Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art‘s exhibition cycle “Participle” at the Latvian National Museum of Art; a solo show of works by Polish artist Artur Żmijewski at Pauls Stradins Museum for History of Medicine organised by Latvian Cultural Projects; MAD International Summer School of Design‘s project “Design in Contemporary Art. An Exhibition of Process at the Sigulda Castle Complex”, and “White Wanderers”, an exhibition organised by the NGO Minus Plus. For the second year in a row, co-funding has been awarded not only to the exhibitions, but also to the educational projects implemented as part of the exhibitions.

Every year in Latvia about 90 children need hearing aids

Hearing aids for people with hearing problems are the key to helping them get the most out of their education and career, as well giving them the freedom of choice in their future lives. On 3 December this year, the symposium "Fixing what isn’t broken. What is reconstruction in contemporary art?", which the ABLV Charitable Foundation supports under the auspices of the programme “Educational Projects with Cultural Content”, will address the dilemmas that arise when trying to reconstruct contemporary artworks, with a particular focus on works that are unstable or changing - installations, performances, kinetic or multimedia artworks. At the centre of the discussion will not only be themes of materiality and the physical process of reconstruction of the artwork, but also such issues as authorship, authenticity, original vs. copy, material vs. immaterial, author’s intent, and re-interpretation.
BLURRY BOUNDARY - AN EXHIBITION OF WORKS BY ART ACADEMY OF LATVIA DIPLOMA CANDIDATES

From 27 October to 27 November, the Art Academy of Latvia’s (AAL) 1st floor exhibition hall will host the annual exhibition of works by Master’s programme diploma candidates, which is being supported for the seventh year in a row by the ABLV Charitable Foundation under the auspices of its “Support for Contemporary Art Exhibitions” programme. As is the case every year, an appropriate leitmotif was sought for the most memorable and impressive works of art, which, although they were on view on individual days during which the Master’s works were defended, had not been widely exhibited to the public. Therefore, the public is kindly invited to the exhibition opening ceremony, which will take place on 26 October at 18.00!
The Baltic Young Artist Award is being awarded for the first time

On the 4th of November, 2016, the Baltic Young Artist Award will be awarded for the first time, starting an annual tradition in Baltic cultural life. The Baltic Young Artist Award was formed in order to introduce the newest generation of artists to professional environments and the wider public, and to support their creative endeavours in starting a successful professional operation. The initiators of the award are the contemporary art platform NOAR and the Latvian Museum of Contemporary Art Foundation (LMCAF), which was founded by the ABLV Charitable Foundation and the Boris and Ināra Teterev Foundation, in cooperation with the Art Academies of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.

From 10 September to 20 November 2016 exhibition of paintings by Raimonds Staprāns, Five Paintings, are on show in the 4th Floor Exhibition Hall of the LNMA. Ten years ago, in 2006, when ABLV Bank for the first time supported Raimonds Staprāns exhibition at the LNMA, it served as an impulse for the establishment of the ABLV Charitable Foundation.

On Saturday, newly restored with the support of the ABLV Charitable Foundation historical environmental object “the Globe” was erected at the crossing of Turaidas Street and Jomas Street in Jurmala. Last year it was dismantled and sent for restoration works.

From 14 July to 16 October 2016, the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design in Riga (10/20 Skārņu Street) will host the exhibition Tamed Nature based on the collection of the internationally renowned fashion historian Alexandre Vassiliev. The show will offer its viewers a rare opportunity to enjoy a nature-inspired selection of numerous gowns and accessories dating from the 18th to the 21st centuries.

The Latvian Museum of Contemporary Art Foundation (LMoCAF) announced today [16.06.16] that the competition jury has selected Adjaye Associates – working with the Latvian team AB3D – as the winner of the invited international competition to design a new contemporary art museum for the centre of Riga. The jury reached their decision following a through deliberation process that was informed by a panel of experts, and which included public presentations and individual interviews with the designers.
In Riga, Over 100 Children Unveil a Fountain That is the Only One of its Kind in Europe

Today, on 8 June, Deputy Chairman of Riga City Council Andris Ameriks, ABLV Charitable Foundation Board Chair Zanda Zilgalve and inventors of the new technology Kristaps Banga and Mārtiņš Dāboliņš joined over 100 children in Kronvalda Park to unveil an interactive fountain, which is the only one of its kind in Europe, as it can be “conducted” by anyone with the simple move of his/her hands, prompting the water to rise and fall without even touching it. The interactive fountain in Kronvalda Park has been created by Latvian artists with support of the ABLV Charitable Foundation under the auspices of its programme the “New Riga”.

Miķelis Fišers Will Represent Latvia at the Venice Art Biennale

Out of seven applications submitted for the competition organised by the Ministry of Culture to earn the honour of creating and executing the concept for Latvia’s exposition at the Venice Biennale’s 57th International Art Exhibition, the jury has chosen artist Miķelis Fišers’ proposal “The Structure of Worries” as the winner. Alongside the funding provided by the Ministry of Culture, the ABLV Charitable Foundation is the main supporter of the Latvian Pavilion at the Venice Art Biennale.

Visit of the seven international architectural practices to Riga on 18 February 2016, shortlisted for design competition for the Latvian Museum of Contemporary Art (LMCA), has marked the beginning of the museum design competition. During the visit, the architects got acquainted with the city architecture and strategic urban planning, competition rules, and museum concept. The international architects expressed their interest in the overall development of Skanste neighbourhood and, in particular, the development plans for its financial and public part, New Hanza City, where the museum will be built.

The Latvian Museum of Contemporary Art Committee of Experts has Been Formed

The Latvian Ministry of Culture and the Foundation of the Latvian Museum of Contemporary Art have agreed on the members of the Latvian Museum of Contemporary Art Expert Committee. The Committee is made up of representatives of the Ministry of Culture and the founders of the Foundation - the ABLV Charitable Foundation and the Boris and Inara Teterev Foundation. The first meeting of the committee, that was also attended by the Minister of Culture, Dace Melbārde and the Chairman of the Latvian Museum of Contemporary Art Foundation, Ernests Bernis, to agree on a schedule of activities for 2015, took place on the 18th of December.
