The Rīgas Laiks Festival

Within the parameters of the 2013 grant programme, ABLV Charitable Foundation is supporting the Rīgas Laiks Festival.
Within the parameters of the 2013 grant programme, the Foundation is supporting the Rīgas Laiks Festival, which will offer 36 different events from 5-10 November including exhibitions, concerts, theatre performances, films, meetings with the authors and creators of Rīgas Laiks, etc.
One of the Festival’s most impressive events will be its opening concert, which will take place on 5 November at 19:00. In it, the State academic choir Latvia and the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra (LNSO) will perform Sergei Prokofiev’s cantata for the 20th anniversary of the October Revolution. The conductor’s baton during the concert will be held by Normunds Šnē. According to Rīgas Laiks publisher Arnis Rītups, this will be the first performance of this work in Latvia. In turn, at 22:00 the Ziemaļblāzma Cultural Centre will host Pyotr Mamonov’s concert “Grandfather Pyotr and the Rabbits”.
On 8 November at 19:00 at the Great Guild, the LNSO conducted by Rossen Milanov will perform Gustav Mahler’s “Fifth Symphony”, which will be preceded an hour before the concert by an introductory lecture given by Henri-Louis de La Grange. The Festival’s closing concert will take place on 10 November. Performing at the concert will be French musician of Arab origin, Siegfried, Mounir Troudi from Tunisia and special guests. However, the official closing event of the Festival is scheduled to take place on the evening on 9 November in the form of a disco at Club Piens. According to the magazine’s Publisher, “Yet to be confirmed musicians will greet Rīgas Laiks on its 20th anniversary.”
Rītups further announced that during the Festival, “Illuminators”, a play by director Anna Viduleja will be shown at the New Rīga Theatre. In turn, on 7 November, “Rīgas Laiks”, an exhibition inspired by Rīgas Laiks magazine will open at the Gallery Māksla XO. Meanwhile, Kaņepes Culture Centre will host an exhibition of photographs and film retrospective compiled by musician, film director and global traveller Siegfried.
In contrast, the Citadele Conference Centre will be the venue for a series of discussions on various subjects: bureaucracy, social innovations, etc., while during the four days of the Festival, the Kalnciema Quarter Gallery will host creative workshops in which Uldis Tīrons and other editors from Rīgas Laiks will give writing classes. The workshops will take place in both Latvian and Russian, and there will be several guest lecturers from Russia.
