The most beautiful vision of the autumn has been fulfilled thanks to the support of the ABLV Charitable Foundation. The project in question aims to make the State-owned pavement adjacent to Elizabetes Street 21A, Riga greener and was devised by the “Elizabetes Park House Association”. It was implemented under the auspices of the “New Riga” programme and is the first project to be carried out under the “Urban Environment” operating realm.
The objective of this project devised by the “Elizabetes Park House Association” is to not only improve the well-being and welfare of the residents of the building at Elizabetes Street 21A, but also that of by-passers, by creating an attractive and aesthetically pleasing residential environment and making the green zone in Riga city centre more enjoyable and accessible. The solution implemented as part of the project involves the planting of nine “Dutch lime trees” alongside the existing lime trees, thus incorporating the project within the urban environment and making the overall landscape in this spot visually harmonious.
Bearing in mind that urban greenery plays an important role in improving the city’s climate, the quantity and diversity of the city’s trees not only mean a beautiful and manicured, but also healthy environment, because trees purify air in the city, protect it from wind, dust and noise and regulate its temperature regime and air humidity.
As we know, one of the ABLV Charitable Foundation’s operating realms is the “Urban Environment”, whose objective is to facilitate the landscaping of the City of Riga, the development of construction projects of public importance and the arrangement of the grounds adjacent to them, thus supporting the creation of an aesthetic cultural environment and giving society the chance to live in a safe and orderly environment.
The “New Riga” programme functions under the auspices of the aforementioned operating realm and one of its tasks is to play an integral role in improving the greenery and landscaping of the City of Riga, prioritising projects that are implemented in Central Riga. During the 2014 Christmas charitable campaign, over EUR 1 million was donated to the operations of the “New Riga” programme.
