The Foundation’s Gift to Latvia’s Libraries
February 1, 2016
To encourage awareness and understanding of the contemporary art scene in Latvia, and to make it more accessible to the public, ABLV Charitable Foundation supports important professional contemporary art projects, under the auspices of which books are also published. The Foundation is pleased to announce that this year it is once again making a gift of beautiful and quality books to the National Library of Latvia’s Support Society.
In late 2015, a total of 684 books were delivered to take up a new life on the shelves of over 400 of Latvia’s public libraries. This gift is comprised of eleven different creative art publications: “Jānis Deinats”, “Latvian Contemporary Painting”, Deimants Narkēvičs’ personal exhibition catalogue "Archaeology of Memories", Mikhail Baryshnikov’s collection catalogue “Art I’ve Lived With”, the 2015 Art Academy of Latvia Yearbook and “Arterritory Conversations #2” as well as “Arterritory Conversations #3” in Latvian, English and Russian. Since 2014, when cooperation with the National Library of Latvia’s Support Society was launched, the Foundation all together has given 1889 art books to Latvian libraries.
Under the auspices of the field of “Contemporary Art”, ABLV Charitable Foundation wishes to facilitate the development of high quality projects in Latvia, thus nurturing the understanding and interest in contemporary art of the prospective audience of the Latvian Museum of Contemporary Art (LMCA). The Foundation is gratified by the eagerness of Latvia’s libraries to see the kind of art publications on their shelves that stimulate public interest in the processes of contemporary art and demonstrate the potential of this art to encourage playful thinking, contemplation and social dialogue, as well as induce readers to discover and develop new talents and possibilities within themselves.
