Support for Camp Managers and Teachers
September 14, 2013
In order to develop the skills of camp managers and teachers in working with camp participants, the Foundation offers training to raise their qualifications.
In collaboration with the orphans’ care centre “Together with Us”, during the 2013 season 20 camp managers and teachers took part in a two-day training session run by Psychology Science Doctor, Saint Petersburg Academy of Medicine Post-Diploma Studies Children’s Psychiatry and Psychotherapy Chair Incumbent Professor Irina Nikolskaya. Since a great deal of attention was focused during 2013 on family camps, the training subject was “Child-Rearing Styles in the Family and Behavioural Correction”, incorporating subjects on the psychological development of the personality and age stage crises, family functioning types and influence of child-rearing and providing an insight into methods for determining family functioning types.
In 2012, camp organisers had the chance to share their experience of camp activities, most interesting experiences and to offer advice on camp organisation matters. Since many volunteers are involved in organising camps, who are engaged in other activities and projects on a day-to-day basis, they had the chance to listen to Ieva Vaine’s interactive lecture on time and life management.
Bearing in mind that the Foundation’s partners organise camps for children from families at social risk or for children with special needs, a great deal of importance is attributed to lecturers’ knowledge of psychology and their preparedness to work with socially disenfranchised groups. Therefore, in future thought will be given to providing support aimed at raising the qualifications of camp teachers and psychologists.
