International Conference “We Are Museums 2017” in Riga

June 6, 2017

From 12 to 14 June 2017, Riga will become a venue for international conference “We Are Museums 2017”, which is supported by the ABLV Charitable Foundation under the auspices of the programme “Educational Projects With Cultural Content”. The conference will gather the European and international museums community to Riga for 3 days of encounters at the intersection of culture and innovation.

“We Are Museums” is the meeting place to create meaningful relationships between museums and their environment and connect the best practitioners of the sector. This year, an international forum will be hosted at the Latvian National Museum of Art (main building, J.Rozentāla laukums 1) and the Art Academy of Latvia (O.Kalpaka bulvāris 13), as well as in several iconic venues across Riga. The event is divided into two distinct formats. A two-day conference from 12 to 13 June and an event for cultural startups, entrepreneurship and museums on 14 June.

During a two-day conference from 12 to 13 June, museums will be at the center of discussions and debates, with a particular focus on inclusion, empathy and social added value. The conference covers the current challenges for museum professionals comprehensively, from technology to attracting new audiences as museums develop collaboration and become resources for the world.

For a total of 40 speakers and workshop leaders “2017 Programme of talks” features:

  • the Louvre Museum (France),
  • the Australian Center of Moving Image (Australia),
  • Tate and the Wellcome Collections (United Kingdom),

“Tech Loves Culture” is the event for cultural startups, entrepreneurship and museums, which will take place on the last day of the conference 14 June 2017 at “Kanepe Culture Center”. It features 20 exhibiting young startups from the Baltics and Europe and will gather the creative and entrepreneurial ecosystem of Riga, fueled by a thriving digital and startup economy.

“We Are Museums 2017” final event “Tech Loves Culture”

“Tech Loves Culture” is the meeting place for culture and tech to start working together and it
is the only event which creates meaningful relationships between the tech and art worlds. It will be held at Kanepes Culture Centre in Riga on 14 June from 11am to 11pm. Free entrance for everyone interested. Main supporter: ABLV Charitable Foundation.

More than a startup fair or a networking opportunity, “Tech Loves Culture” aspires to give this budding community some real ‘Tender Loving Care’. “Tech Loves Culture” will gather 20 of the most exciting cultural startups in Europe offering solutions for museums in ticketing, augmented reality, mobile experience, interactive technologies and ecommerce and 300 culture professionals from more than 20 countries.

International, innovative and out of the box, “Tech Loves Culture” will celebrate discovering new solutions and understanding new professional culture better through numerous meet and match options. “Tech Loves Culture” strives to start conversations, collaborations and new businesses.

Participants will attend two-way pitches through open mic sessions and book an expert for 15 minute-long sessions on top of hooking up with your future clients and providers.

Starting from 11am startups will have the opportunity to exhibit their tech through single booths and live demos and will reply questions art professionals have in mind but were (perhaps) afraid to ask.

At 3pm “Tech Loves Culture” will put the spotlight on the movers and shakers of the art+tech world with a special discussion on contemporary art and technology featuring prestigious actors such as Tate IK Prize (UK), Kim?, ABLV Charitable Foundation (Latvia) and Kiasma (Finland).

“Tech Loves Culture” is organized by “We Are Museums”, the hub of museums which connects professionals to their new ecosystems.
